Lead Service Line Inventory

Lead Service Line Inventory

Valley Center Municipal Water District (“VCMWD” or “District”) completed its initial lead service line inventory required by U.S. EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. The deadline for the initial inventories was October 16, 2024. Water service lines include the utility’s water service line, which extends from the utility’s water main to the water meter, and the customer’s private water service line, which extends from the water meter to the customer’s home or business.

By completing a historical records review and field investigations, VCMWD has determined that the District has no lead or galvanized service lines in its distribution system.  Additionally, we have not identified any lead in our customer’s private water service lines. We are unable to check the interior of your home for lead pipes. You can visit the link from the EPA, below, to learn how to check for lead pipes in your home.

VCMWD performed a statistical analysis of 1320 meters by reviewing the following sources of information:

VCMWD’s water system was installed in the mid-1950’s, at a time when very little to no lead was used on private property. Additionally, lead was not a commonly used pipe material in San Diego County during significant development periods. The District currently has 6,900 service line connections installed prior to 1986. The service lines were verified non-lead with the material found to be copper on the utility side of the meter and copper, plastic, or galvanized on the customer side of the meter.

Lead Lookup Map

The VCMWD Lead Lookup Map provides information about both the utility-side and private-side material of your water service line. Simply enter the meter serial number (located on the top right corner of your water bill) or address you want to look up in the “find address or serial number” box in the upper left corner of the Lead Lookup Map. The map will show you the material of your service line. Contact the GIS Department if you need assistance.

This information is based on the best available data the District has at this time. VCMWD continually updates its service line data based on current information and records it receives.
